An appeal will be filed by the Attorney General of the Republic, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, against the new decision of the Limassol District Court, dated 30 November 2023, to entitle plaintiffs-depositors to a claim that "they have suffered damage to their property and are therefore entitled to compensation" for the losses they suffered due to the impairment of deposits in Laiki Bank in 2013, under the "Resolution of Credit and Other Institutions Law of 2013".
The Decision of the Limassol District Court, which was issued by the same Judge as the Decision dated 8 November 2023 in which he vindicated a plaintiff in a case of a similar nature, deviates from the plethora of Decisions issued to date where similar claims have been dismissed.
This action was brought against Laiki Bank, the Central Bank of Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus, with the Judge's Judgment being issued only against the Central Bank of Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus.
The Legal Service of the Republic, having studied the Judgment of the Court, decided that it should be appealed and a team of officials of the Legal Service is already preparing the drafting of the appeal.
