[PIO] The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Uzbekistan presented his credentials

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Uzbekistan, based in Moscow, Dr Cyprus Yiorgallis presented on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, his credentials at a special ceremony held in the capital Tashkent. The credentials and revocable documents were received on behalf of the President of the country, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich. Nikos Christodoulides, Dr. Yiorgallis expressed his readiness and commitment to further strengthen relations between the two countries, as well as to deepen cooperation at the bilateral level and in the framework of European Union-Uzbekistan relations.

The Foreign Minister returned the President's warm greetings to President Christodoulides and congratulated the Ambassador on his accreditation. He also conveyed his best wishes for the success of efforts to further strengthen relations between the two countries at bilateral and multilateral levels.

At a meeting held after the official ceremony, the Foreign Minister referred to Uzbekistan's foreign policy priorities and the prospects for the development of relations between his country and the Republic of Cyprus.

In the context of meetings held during his stay in the capital Tashkent, Dr Yiorgallis was briefed on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and on efforts to upgrade the breakaway entity, particularly within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States and the Organization of Islamic Conference, in violation of international legality. At the same time, they exchanged views on the institutionalisation of bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and Uzbekistan, with a view to prioritising areas that the two countries wish to promote jointly, such as education, tourism and political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
