[PIO] The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Hungary presented his credentials

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Hungary, Mr.Homer Mavrommatis, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs.Katalin Novak, at a ceremony held at the Sandor Palace in Budapest on 14 August 2023. The ceremony was also attended by officials of the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.

In the private meeting that followed, Mr. Mavrommatis conveyed the President's cordial greetings to President Novak, as well as wishes for the prosperity of the country and the Hungarian people. He expressed Cyprus' readiness to further strengthen and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as their cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The Ambassador briefed President Novak on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, referring to the 49th anniversary of the illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus. In this context, he referred to the President's initiative to resume talks and underlined the importance of supporting the international community's efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem within the agreed framework of the United Nations and on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The President of Hungary returned warm greetings to the President of the Republic and referred to the close bilateral relations between Cyprus and Hungary, focusing on the prospect of strengthening cooperation, especially between the two countries. She assured the Ambassador that he would have the full support of the Government during his mission to Hungary, and reaffirmed her country's commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem.
