The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Albania, based in Athens, Mr. Stavros Avgoustidis presented his credentials to President Bajram Begaj on May 14, 2024, at an official ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Tirana.
In a subsequent meeting, Mr. Augustides conveyed the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, expressing our country's readiness to further deepen relations with Albania in various fields, and to strengthen cooperation, both at bilateral and multilateral level.
In return, the President of Albania expressed warm greetings to President Christodoulides, underlining his country's willingness and determination to further develop and expand relations with Cyprus, both at bilateral and multilateral levels.
The accession process and the progress of Albania's alignment with the acquis communautaire were also discussed, with Mr Augustides highlighting the benefits and obligations arising from Albania's pre-accession path. In this context, President Begai welcomed the possible assistance of the Republic of Cyprus in his country's alignment with the acquis communautaire, through the provision of know-how and expertise.
During his stay in Albania, accompanied by the Counsellor of the Embassy, Mr. Neophytos Constantinou, the Ambassador held a series of meetings with officials and senior officials of the country. Among others, Mr. Augustidis met with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Mr. Igli Hasani, the Director of the Directorate of Neighbourhood Mr. Kastriot Robo, the Director of the Directorate of European Affairs Ms. Admira Jorgji, as well as with the Head of Political Affairs of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Tirana Mr. André Rizzo, with whom he discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in their areas of competence.
