[PIO] The action of the Fire Service in the last 24 hours

From 06:00 on 13 January 2023 until 06:00 on 14 January 2023, the Fire Service responded to 21 calls for assistance (4 fires and 11 special services and 6 calls related to severe weather phenomena).

At 17:52, a call was received for a fire in 5 staff, military vehicles, which were parked in a shed within a fenced area within a camp in Limassol. Members of the Police and Fire Service from the Limassol Fire Stations responded with three fire engines. Due to the fire and heat, the vehicles suffered extensive damage. An investigation into the causes of the fire will follow, in cooperation with the competent authorities.

At 22:13, a call was received for assistance to a traffic accident after a collision, in Limassol. Members of the Police and Fire Service from the St. John's Fire Station Sergeant Vassilis Crocus with a rescue vehicle and rescue team responded. One person was extricated using rescue equipment and handed over to the ambulance crew for transfer to Limassol General Hospital.

At 02:15, a call was received for a fire in six vehicles which were parked in an open area in the yard of a car workshop in the Anatoliko industrial area of Paphos district. Members of the Police and Fire Service from the Paphos Fire Station responded with three fire engines. Due to the fire and heat, three of the vehicles were extensively damaged, while the remaining three were affected with minor damage. An investigation into the causes of the fire is ongoing, in conjunction with the Police and the Electromechanical Service.

At 02:57, a call was received for a fire in a vehicle parked outside a house in Limassol. Members of the Police and Fire Service from the Agios Ioannis Fire Station - Sergeant Vassilis Crocus with two fire engines responded. The fire was extinguished before the arrival of the Fire Service by the owners. Due to the fire and heat, the vehicle sustained minor damage. A fire cause investigation is underway in conjunction with the Police.

As of 04:40, calls for assistance are continuously received due to severe weather conditions in Famagusta province, in the area of Paralimni and Protaras. The incidents involve flooded roads, opening of rainwater drains, pumping water from flooded premises and towing of vehicles. Our members are working with equipped crews and staff had to be recalled.
