[PIO] The action of the Fire Service during the last 24 hours

From 06:00 on 7 May 2024 until 06:00 on 8 May 2024, the Fire Service responded to 37 calls for assistance (30 fires, five special services and two false calls).

  1. At 13:42 yesterday a call was received for a fire in an abandoned basement on Iktinou Street in Limassol. Two fire engines from Limassol fire stations responded. The fire affected scaffolding, scrap materials, sofas and tables. Also affected by the fire were abandoned shops on the ground floor. During the fire department's intervention, two rooms on the first floor were broken into for any trapped persons, but nothing was found. The causes are being investigated in cooperation with the police.
  2. At 16:40 yesterday a call was received for a fire which burned an acre of cane, dry grass, wild vegetation, various trees, piles of waste material and a large pile of firewood in an area near the road from Aradippou to Kellia. Three fire engines from Larnaca fire stations, one from the Forestry Department, two agricultural tractors and a private excavator responded to the extinguishing operation. To cover the needs of the Larnaca fire stations, a partial recall of personnel was carried out. The causes are being investigated.
  3. At 00:48 today a call was received for a fire in a ground floor building with a warehouse extension, measuring 40x20 meters, on Christodoulou H'Pavlou Avenue on the Limassol coastal road. The Fire Brigade responded with four fire engines from Limassol fire stations. The building was abandoned, containing old furniture and various waste materials. The building and its contents were extensively damaged by the fire. The fire was prevented from spreading to adjacent outbuildings. The fire was extinguished by the installation of water laterals, a ventilation device and the use of breathing apparatus. To meet the needs of the Limassol fire stations, a partial recall of personnel was made. The causes will be investigated today.
  4. At 03:03 today a call was received for a fire on a KYMCO two-wheeler, which was parked on the roadway, on Stasikratous Street in Limassol. The fire caused extensive damage to the two-wheeler. The Fire Brigade responded with a fire engine from a fire station in Limassol. At first glance it appears to be arson.
  5. At 04:14 today a call was received for a fire in a cafeteria on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, in Limassol. There was a small fire inside the cafeteria. The Fire Brigade responded with two fire engines from a Limassol fire station and the fire has been extinguished. The causes will be investigated later today.
