The Fire Service, from 06:00 on 6 December until 06:00 on 7 December, responded to 45 calls for assistance, 32 fires and 13 special services.
At 08:57 a call was received for a fire in a two-storey detached house between the communities of Statos - Agios Fotios and Panagia in Paphos Prefecture, which was brought under control at 10:05. Two fire engines from the Paphos and Stroubiou Countryside Fire Stations and two fire engines from the Forestry Department responded. The fire, which was caused by a defective fireplace chimney, caused extensive damage to the first floor of the house, as well as its contents, and the collapse of the wooden roof. Smoke damage was also sustained to the masonry paint and the contents of the ground floor. The occupant of the house was absent at the time of the fire. The causes of the fire were investigated in cooperation with the competent authorities.
At 10:46 a call was received for a fire in hay bales within a cultivated field between the communities of Kokkinotrimithia and Paliometochou. Two fire engines from the Dovecote Outdoor Fire Station responded and the fire was brought under control at 13:46. The cause of the fire remains unknown, without ruling out the possibility of malicious action.
At 16:47 a call was received for police assistance in locating a missing person who had gone hunting in the Stavrovouni area. The Special Disaster Response Unit (SDU) with a team of rescue dogs responded. The missing elderly person was found by the K-9 rescue dog team of the EMAK. unconscious. He was administered first aid and then assisted by ambulance personnel to transport him from the location to the ambulance. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department (AED) of Larnaca General Hospital.
At 16:59 a call was received for a fire in an apartment on the first floor of a two-storey building in Strovolos. Two fire engines from the Acropolis Fire Station of Sergeant Spyros Tantanti responded and the fire was brought under control at 17:23. The fire broke out in the kitchen of the apartment and caused extensive damage to its contents. There was smoke damage and damage to the masonry paint of the entire apartment. The occupants of the apartment were absent at the time of the fire. After investigating the causes, it was determined that the fire was caused by a forgotten electrical appliance in the kitchen area and spread to the rest of the kitchen area from clothing lying next to it.
At 17:43 a call was received for a fire in an apartment on the first floor of a two-storey building in the area of Agios Andreas in Nicosia. Two fire engines from the Paphos Gate Fire Station responded and the fire was brought under control at 17:54. The fire was in soot within the fireplace chimney. The area suffered light smoke damage. The elderly resident of the apartment and her caregiver, who were inside the apartment, were safely evacuated by Fire Department members. The cause of the fire was a defective fireplace chimney.
At 03:46 a call was received for a fire in an auxiliary house measuring approximately 5.5 m. x 4.5 m. in Paphos. Two fire engines from the Paphos Fire Station responded. The equipment within the room was extensively damaged by the fire and heat. The masonry paintwork was damaged by smoke. At the time of the fire no one was inside the annexe at the time of the fire. The fire was extinguished by the owner of the primary residence prior to the arrival of the Fire Department, who was aware of the fire and notified the Fire Department. A power cut, inspection and ventilation was carried out on behalf of the Fire Service. After investigating the causes of the fire it was determined that the fire was caused by a faulty electric heater.
