From 06:00 on 2 October 2023 until 06:00 on 3 October 2023, the Fire Service responded to 28 calls for assistance (13 fires, 13 special services and two false calls).
At 10:44, a call was received for a dry grass fire near the industrial area of Agia Varvara in Paphos District. Two fire engines and one portable firefighting unit from the Paphos District Fire Stations responded. The fire burned approximately one hectare of dry grass and wild vegetation and was brought under control at 12:20. The Fire Service was supported by the Forestry Department with a fire engine, as well as the Thera Service with a portable fire-fighting unit. The causes of the fire are being investigated, in cooperation with the Police.
At 17:17, a call was received for a fire in dry grass near the community of Holetria, Paphos district. Two fire engines and a portable fire fighting unit from the Paphos District Fire Stations responded. The fire burned approximately one hectare of dry grass and wild vegetation and was brought under control at 18:31. An individual country house was threatened and protected by the fire. The Fire Service was supported with a portable firefighting unit by the Thera Fire Service. The causes of the fire are being investigated in cooperation with the Police.
At 19:04, a call was received for a traffic accident on the road Kofinou - Kornos, after a head-on collision between two private vehicles. The Police and Fire Service responded with a team and a rescue vehicle from EMAC. The passenger of one of the vehicles was extricated by members of the Fire Service using rescue equipment and handed over to the ambulance crew for transfer to the Larnaca General Hospital's T.A.E.P. The driver of this vehicle, as well as a little girl who was also in the vehicle, exited before the arrival of the Fire Service and were transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital A&E Department. In addition, the driver of the second vehicle also exited before the arrival of the Fire Service and was transported by ambulance to the Larnaca General Hospital A&E Department.
At 22:10, a call was received for a fire in a two-wheeled vehicle, which was parked in a field in Strovolos in Nicosia District. A fire engine from the Lakatamia Fire Station responded and the fire was brought under control at 22:24. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to the two-wheeler in question. The causes of the fire will be investigated later today, in cooperation with the competent authorities.
