The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that a tender has been launched today, 18 January 2022, for the supply and installation of modern bus stops and bus shelters throughout Cyprus, with a total value of €71.4 million (including VAT). The implementation period of the Contract is five years with an estimated value of €35 million. In addition, it includes an extension provision of €10 million, which may be used for additional orders and/or repairs of pavements where deemed necessary for safety and functionality purposes with the installation of the new bus shelters. In addition, a fifteen-year maintenance of €5 million is foreseen, as well as an amount of €10 million for orders from third parties such as Municipalities, Communities, School Boards, bus companies with Concession Contracts, etc., which will be covered by their own funds. In all cases, such infrastructure to be maintained will be owned by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.
The Contract provides for the installation of:

- 2,000 simple pylons,
- 1.350 small shelters,

- repair and re-installation of more than 600 existing shelters,

The single design developed takes into account the conditions and data of Cyprus and achieves uniformity, scalability to adapt to available space and usage needs, accessibility for use by people with disabilities, safety and weather protection, lighting, use of renewable energy sources and information on bus routes that correspond to the bus stop.
The Tender is being conducted in two stages:

The submission of tenders is expected to take place around July 2022 and the award and signing of the contract around October 2022.
The installation of the first modern stands and shelters is expected to start approximately three months later, i.e. in early 2023, provided that final prototypes are prepared and then mass production is foreseen.
