[PIO] Switzerland supports the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to tackle migratory flows and the work of the Association for Prevention and

The following agreements were signed on 29 July 2024, in Nicosia, between the Republic of Cyprus and the Swiss Confederation.

The agreement provides for a contribution of CHF 8.8 million (approximately €9.1 million) and will cover part of the costs for the construction of the building facilities, publicity activities and exchange of know-how, and is expected to be completed in December 2026.

The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Directorate General for Development of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Andreas Zacharias, and the State Secretary for Migration of the Swiss Confederation, Ms Christine Schraner Burgener, in the presence of the State Secretary for Migration and International Protection, Dr Nicolas Ioannidis, and other officials.

(b) Funding agreement for new infrastructure for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence with the Association for the Prevention and Treatment of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) as implementing agency. The project concerns the extension of SPAVO's work in Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol. The total budget of the project amounts to CHF 2.08 million (approximately €2.2 million) and will be 100% financed.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Andreas Zachariadis, Director General of the General Directorate for Development of the Ministry of Finance and Mr. Andreas Zachariadis, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation. The event was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs Marilena Evangelou and members of the Board of Directors of SPAVO.

The agreements are part of the two Framework Agreements signed between the two countries.

The agreements are part of the two Framework Agreements signed between the two countries. The first Framework Agreement, worth CHF 10.0 million (approximately €10.4 million), provides for support for measures in the field of Migration and additional funds are expected to be made available in this area. The second aims to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Union (EU) for an amount of CHF 5.2 million (approximately €5.4 million). These grants are provided under the Second Swiss Contribution 2019-2029.
