The Agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and the Swiss Confederation on financial support for the work of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) was signed today, Wednesday, 11 October 2023, in Nicosia. The Agreement provides for a contribution of CHF 1.0 million (approximately €1.04 million), in four annual instalments, starting in 2023, for the work of the ICRC. The grant will cover part of the costs for DNA analyses and staff training, including the creation of a virtual excavation site. The agreement was signed by An. The Agreement was signed by Mr. Andreas Zachariadis, Director General of the Directorate General for Development of the Ministry of Finance and Mr. Christoph Burgener, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Cyprus.
The Agreement is part of the Framework Agreement signed between the two countries to reduce economic and social disparities in the EU for the amount of CHF 5.2 million (approximately €5.4 million). Through a separate Agreement, an amount of CHF10.0 million (approximately €10.4 million) will be made available to support measures in the area of Migration. These grants to Cyprus are given in the context of the Second Swiss Contribution 2019-2029.
