The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) informs parents/guardians that the House of Representatives in its session, dated 21.03.2024, passed the Primary and Secondary Education (Compulsory Education and Provision of Free Education) (Amendment) Law of 2024, which refers to the gradual extension of free compulsory pre-primary education from the age of four.
This is a landmark development in the history of Cypriot education, which significantly upgrades pre-primary education, with enormous pedagogical and social benefits. Research data indicate that two years of compulsory pre-primary education leads to better learning outcomes and early diagnosis of literacy, violence and delinquency. At the same time, it ensures equal opportunities to access quality education programmes and facilitates parents/guardians' integration or reintegration into the labour market.
Therefore, parents/guardians affected by the amendment of the above legislation are informed that the enrolment of pupils aged 46/12-48/12 (i.e. children with a date of birth of 01.01.01.2020-29.02.2020), in the Public and Community Kindergartens, for the new school year 2024-2025, will be conducted from March 28 to April 2, 2024
Registration will be conducted in the same manner as for children aged 48/12-6 years old. For smooth registration/transfer, affected parents/guardians are requested to follow the instructions presented in the attached file.
