The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Christodoulides visited today the Vasilikos terminal facilities, in view of the resumption of the construction works of the natural gas terminal.

Arriving at the terminal's facilities, accompanied by Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, the President of the Republic, in his statements to journalists and asked about his visit, said: "I am visiting on the one hand to show in practice our satisfaction with the results of yesterday's consultation between the Minister and the company.

I want to thank the Minister, thank the company that we came to this decision, considering that it does not affect any other process.

One of the key objectives of the Government and more specifically the Ministry of Energy is to reduce the price of electricity.

We know very well that this is something that affects households, it affects businesses, and our key objective of reducing the price of electricity goes through and through the operation here of the terminal.

And that's why I'm here, to find out how the work starts again as soon as possible, how it can be completed.

So the operation of the terminal here is a component towards what we want to achieve, what we have promised the world, and we will do it, which is to reduce the price of electricity, along with other actions that we are already taking as a government, such as, for example, renewable energy sources - I am very happy about the great interest of our fellow citizens - and other actions that we are taking for the electrical interconnection of our country.

We are working on different pillars and a key pillar is the operation of the terminal."

Asked about the floating storage and regasification plant, President Christodoulides said: "The ship is certainly part of the whole effort. And some decisions were taken there yesterday on how to proceed in the immediate future and we will discuss all this again today with both the Minister and the company."
