Tax reform was mentioned today by the President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides, who visited the offices of the Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) this afternoon.
In his statements to journalists, coming to the offices of the OEB, the President of the Republic was asked whether in the framework of the tax reform there will be an increase in the tax-free income, the President said: "A study is currently being done."
I myself had a meeting with the technocrats to see how the whole effort is going. It is an issue that they are concerned about following our guidelines as well as other issues. For example, I cannot accept that we have about 30% underground economy in our country. I expect everyone's cooperation, it is also a goal of the tax reform.
Do you realize, if we can only deal with this phenomenon, the benefits for the economy.
At the same time, yes, we are touching on the issue that you have mentioned, which was also my election reference, focusing on the middle class of our country and how we can strengthen it. We want to give incentives, particularly with regard to families, children, single parents, large families. I have personally discussed all these issues myself. I will have another meeting with the relevant team."
I want around the end of the year, when we will implement the green tax, along with the green tax, some parts of the tax reform to be announced, which will also show our intention in the overall tax reform package."
Asked if what will be announced will be a counterbalance to the green tax, the President said: "That one will be separate. There are offsets that relate solely to the green tax issue. I am referring to some other measures, so that we support the middle class of our country."
