The President of the Republic will pay a working visit to The Hague, Government Spokesman Constantinos Letibiotis said today.
In a statement to journalists at the Presidential Palace, the Spokesman said: "The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Christodoulides leaves tomorrow morning for The Hague, The Netherlands, where he will pay a working visit and hold meetings with the country's top leadership at the invitation of the Dutch Prime Minister.
Tomorrow, at 5:30 p.m. (Cyprus time), the President of the Republic will be received by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, at the Palace, The Hague.
During the audience with the King of the Netherlands, among other things, issues relating to bilateral relations will be discussed, in particular issues concerning the exchange of experience in the management of water resources, a subject of particular interest to the King himself, the future of Europe in view of the forthcoming European elections, as well as the current situation in the Cyprus problem.
Afterwards, the President of the Republic will go to the official residence of the Prime Minister where he will have a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Rutte, with whom he will discuss issues related to the European agenda, the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, migration, as well as bilateral relations between Cyprus and the Netherlands.
He will also provide an update on developments in the Cyprus issue and our side's efforts to resume the talks from where they were interrupted in Crans-Montana, and on the basis of the agreed framework, in the light of the new efforts being made following the appointment of the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy.
Cyprus-Dutch bilateral relations are at a very high level with the two countries maintaining a large number of bilateral agreements and cooperation in various areas such as Defence and Security, Tourism and Investment.
Moreover, the agreement on the avoidance of double taxation has recently entered into force, which is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of economy and investment.
The President of the Republic, who will return to Cyprus the day after tomorrow, 29 February, will be accompanied in The Hague by the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, the President of the Republic and other officials.
