The effective handling of the Migration issue is among the Government's priorities, said Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letibiotis.

Speaking to reporters today at the Presidential Palace, and asked about the incidents in Chloraka yesterday, the Spokesman said that "we cannot but condemn what happened yesterday in Chloraka. Violence, violation of public safety is not something we can accept in a conducive state and it is a rule that violence breeds violence. There are certain institutions, there are the Security Corps, which will be able to ensure this public security.

After the meeting held at the Presidential Palace under the President of the Republic, the very next day an operation was launched, in the context of which, I note that the recording was completed last Friday.

We are in the middle of this operation, it is ongoing, to implement the 2021 decree of the Paphos Prefect. The decree will be implemented, the building in two weeks will be evacuated and sealed so that the decree can be implemented.

And it is here that we note the necessity of establishing the Deputy Ministry of Immigration, for which the relevant bill has already been submitted to the Parliament since June, and we expect with the start of the new parliamentary term the legislature to promote it as soon as possible

Effectively dealing with the migration issue is among the priorities of the Government. Already, in recent months we have witnessed a reversal, for the first time, of the balances; departures are outnumbering arrivals and this is for the first time in several years. Already, we have increased the number of application examiners, we have reduced the number of pending applications and we will continue in this direction."

Asked about what happened yesterday and the actions of the Police, the Spokesman said that "yesterday afternoon the Chief of Police himself went there, the policing was reinforced with special forces. At the same time, we must note that not just anyone can take the law into their own hands.

The Police have already made arrests and are in possession of closed circuit security cameras which they will investigate so that they can bring to justice those who knowingly either organised or intruded into this event to create disturbances."
