For the second time in less than a month, the Legal Service of the Republic has been targeted by criminal elements.
The brazen, criminal attack against our colleague, the Public Prosecutor, in Paphos, is an attack against the Legal Service, Justice and the Rule of Law, and it shakes the State to its core.
Statements and euphemisms are no longer enough. There is no room for tolerance.
I will limit myself to the obvious:
First, the State must immediately protect all the officials of the Legal Service, who, in the performance of their high duties, are daily confronted with organized crime, and
Second, it is expected that the competent authorities will fully investigate both this and the previous, recent bomb attack against another colleague of ours in Paphos.
Also, collectively, the three powers of the State - Executive, Legislative and Judicial - each within their respective powers, must deal with organised crime.
Both I and the Assistant Attorney General of the Republic stand by our colleagues, with our unreserved sympathy and support for our colleague and her family, as well as for all our officials. Already the Assistant Attorney General with the Chief Public Prosecutor visited Paphos early this morning and had a meeting with our fellow public prosecutor, the Police and all our fellow public prosecutors in Paphos.
What is certain is that we remain focused on carrying out our high mission for the Rule of Law and Justice.
