The effort on the Cyprus problem will focus on bringing everyone back to the parameters dictated by the UN resolutions, President Nicos Anastasiades said today.
In his remarks to reporters after the service for the Feast of the Epiphany at St Lazarus Church in Larnaca, the President of the Republic said that "what I would like to wish is a year in which we find normality in our lives again, full of health free from the pandemic, but also free from Turkish bulimia. I wish everyone and everyone individually all the best."
Asked if the measures taken yesterday to deal with the pandemic by the Cabinet could have been more stringent, the President said that "we would not want in any way after what citizens in general have suffered and suffered, and businesses, to create conditions for a new lockdown. We have tried to be within the framework of scientific opinions and I believe that if we heed the calls from the whole, not only in Cyprus but around the world, and follow a vaccination programme which our state generously provides to our citizens, it will be a way of dealing with the present evolution of the virus or any other that may be observed."
Asked what his thoughts are on the Cyprus issue and to a reporter's remark that the UN Secretary General does not recognize how out of context Turkey is, the President said that "as from the first day of my election, my goal and vision was to create the conditions to allow for a creative dialogue, but more importantly to reach a workable and viable solution, a state free of occupying armies or third party dependencies, so the remaining months will be exhausted with the effort focused on bringing everyone back to the parameters dictated by United Nations resolutions. No one for any reason, diplomatic or otherwise, can disregard the terms of reference and resolutions that the Security Council or United Nations resolutions dictate and impose."
Asked if there exists for the same issue in relation to what is mentioned about the Foreign Minister and towards Presidential Elections, the President to Republic said that "what I want to assure you from towards consultations that I have not as President to Republic, but as a former leader of the party, as a servant of the party, is that none of those whose names are mentioned has less love for the party, has less love for Cyprus and therefore I am sure that in the end any apparent differences will be overcome".
