The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides said tonight that he is awaiting the decisions of the Executive Committee of the Cyprus Football Federation (CFF), noting that he does not rule out anything in relation to the decisions he will take.
In his statements to journalists, coming to the Strovolos Municipal Hall for the presentation of the book by George George, the President of the Republic, asked if he intends to "close the stadiums" after the latest incidents in Limassol, said "Today I spoke again with the President of the CMP and we agreed that tomorrow the Minister of Justice will attend the meeting of the CMP, in the presence of the Clubs, to hear the decisions of the CMP.
Depending on the decisions taken, I do not rule anything out. Neither for fan associations nor for the participation of fans in stadiums, I do not exclude anything. Decisions that may not be liked, but, I repeat, the priority is the safety of the fans. So, I do not rule out anything.
I want to hear tomorrow the decisions of the CMP and the clubs. Clubs, which are protagonists in this effort. I want to see possible decisions concerning fan associations, with which the Clubs have a relationship and I do not rule out anything."
Asked if the issue of reorganizing even the leadership of the Police is in his plans or if he will look elsewhere for the causes of yesterday's incidents, the President said that "last night there were 340 police officers in the stadium. Police officers, some of whom were working overtime so that we could cover this difficult, high-risk game."
At the same time, the country has many other challenges to face. We have immigration, we have crime, and you know who pays for all that? The taxpaying citizen. I don't want us to end up with football matches and for every fan we have a policeman. If people want this league, this league will not exist. So I look forward to hearing decisions and, I repeat, I am not ruling anything out."
