The level of security has been significantly enhanced in critical infrastructures, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides said tonight.
Speaking to reporters at the IRENA Conference in Nicosia, and asked to comment on the situation in the region, the President of the Republic said that "you can see that everything that is unfolding is tragic, we are in contact with all the neighbouring states. Today I also participated in a meeting of the European People's Party, where we discussed the situation. A short while ago I received a telephone call from the American Secretary of State, Mrs Nuland, to thank me on behalf of the American President for the assistance to the Republic of Cyprus. The Hestia project is in full swing, we have requests from several countries and we are responding and will continue to respond. We are following the developments, it is something that concerns us and we hope that a way out will be found soon, because that is the main issue, how to end this dysfunctional situation, which affects the whole region."
Asked about the measures being taken in Cyprus and whether there is concern for our country as well, the President said that "yesterday there was a meeting of the National Security Council at the political level, at the technocratic level it has been happening from the very first moment, and on Monday I have convened the National Council specifically for this purpose, to inform about all the measures being taken. I have asked the competent authorities of the State yesterday to further strengthen all the protection measures, we are doing everything possible, we are monitoring the situation, whatever needs to be done to prevent any negative development. Yes, especially in critical infrastructure the level of security has been significantly enhanced."
