The situation in Israel affects the wider region and instructions have been given to increase controls at various points in Cyprus, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides said yesterday.
In his remarks to journalists in Limassol, after the reception held at the opening of the "Maritime Cyprus 2023" conference, the President of the Republic was asked about the situation in Israel and said that "we are monitoring the situation very carefully, all internal procedures concerning the Republic of Cyprus in such cases have been activated. We are in contact with Israel, with the leadership in Israel and not only, and with the neighbouring states. Because what is happening there affects our region more broadly.
At the same time, we have expressed our readiness to help in the health sector in particular, should any needs arise. We are all watching that new facts are constantly emerging in relation to people who are seriously injured. So, as the Republic of Cyprus we have expressed our readiness, if it is deemed necessary by Israel, to help in this particular area."
Asked if there are security issues for Cyprus, the President of the Republic said that "there have certainly been increased controls in particular in specific places, such as airports, ports, marinas, the Israeli Diplomatic Mission and not only, there is a large Israeli community in Cyprus."

Instructions have been given to enhance security in all these areas, we are monitoring it, we are evaluating it on a daily basis and hopefully soon, even though we see the situation continuing, there will be data that will allow us to be optimistic that there will be an end to this situation."
