The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, expressed the hope that the Turkish Cypriot leader will respond positively to the proposal of the UN Secretary General (UNSG) during their upcoming meeting in New York.
In his remarks to the media after the Trisagion at the Prisoners' Memorial for the April 1 anniversary, in response to a journalist's remark that he had said that April will be a month of developments and asked what to expect, given the upcoming SG-Tatar meeting and the arrival of the SG's personal envoy Ms. Holguín in Cyprus, President Christodoulides said: "It is a simple matter.
As I mentioned before, the UN Secretary General, when we met in Brussels, and previously with Ms Holguín, conveyed to me some proposals, which I have accepted.
I hope there will be a response from the other side as well.
In this context, I consider the meeting that will take place on April 5 in New York important, and I hope there will be a response from the Turkish side."
Asked if he is in communication with Ms. Holguín, President Christodoulides replied. Tatar has to respond and I hope he will respond positively to the SG's proposal."
