The Council of Ministers will today discuss the full implementation of the 14 measures for Turkish Cypriots, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides said at the beginning of today's meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace.
Addressing the members of the Council of Ministers, the President of the Republic said the following. We believe that the substantial strengthening of the deterrent power of the Republic of Cyprus starts through the personnel of the National Guard and its officers. Today's decision is a decision that essentially upgrades the institution and strengthens this effort to create a semi-professional army to strengthen the deterrent power of the Republic of Cyprus on the one hand, which is our obligation as long as the Turkish occupation continues, but at the same time to be able to meet our obligations as a member state of the European Union, but also taking into account the general developments in the region. We have discussed it twice. Most of the measures have been implemented 100 percent. Some measures needed some preparation. This groundwork is progressing and I would like to discuss today so that the full implementation of these measures can be completed."
