The Cyprus problem, the migration issue and the issue of the findings of the investigation on Akamas were among other issues mentioned today by President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides in his statements to the media.

In his statements to journalists, coming to the Annual General Assembly of the Association of Major Developments, in Nicosia, and asked if the Prime Minister of Greece has conveyed to him anything that creates the image of mobility for the prospect of holding a trilateral meeting, the President of the Republic said: "I spoke with the Greek Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister spoke with Mr. Gerapetritis and I also spoke with Ms. Holguín when she was in Athens."

The effort continues. The response from our side is positive, as I said the effort continues, to give time to diplomacy. We are here and we really hope that the conditions will be created so that a discussion, a dialogue can start, to see if there are conditions for the resumption of talks.

I don't want to say anything else at this moment, it's not right, because there is an ongoing effort."

Asked if there was a proposal for a five-party meeting and he rejected it, the President said "I have not rejected any proposal from the personal envoy."

Asked if he can say whether he can, because of the attitude of either side, prevent the United Nations (UN) Secretary General (SG) from renewing Ms. Holguín's contract in light of Tatar's statements, the President said: "This is up to the SG. I discussed it with him, not with Ms. Holguín, when we met in Brussels. We will see how the whole situation develops. I do not want to comment on Mr Tatar's references against Ms Holguín. I repeat, when you have confidence in your positions, in the context in which you are operating, then there is no need for such references. In any case, there is an ongoing effort, I do not want to say anything that can create any problems."

In response to a reporter's remark that after Nasrallah's reports, surveillance was also increased in the buffer zone, the President said: "No, it was from before, before Mr. Nasrallah's statements, that as part of our holistic approach to dealing with the migration issue, we have done a great deal and will continue to do so. Yes, I said it before, we will face this great challenge. We have also increased controls."

Asked how concerned he is about the call of the Hezbollah leader, the President said: "It is an unacceptable report, there is no other characterization I can give to this issue. We are in contact with the Government of Lebanon both before and after the statements, and as an independent sovereign state we will do whatever it takes to deal with this enormous challenge."

Asked about the Kition company and where the issue of this major development stands, the President said: "It is a major development, which we as a Government fully support. At the same time, those who wish to participate in such major projects should be able to respond on the basis of the agreements, the contracts that are signed. Very soon we will complete this issue. Hopefully, this is our intention and our effort, this particular issue will have a positive outcome."

Asked whether responsibilities will be attributed after the conclusion of the administrative investigation on Akamas, the President of the Republic said: "Rest assured that responsibilities will be attributed. What we are doing is to ensure that they are properly attributed, always taking into account the relevant finding and everything that is needed, so that there is concrete information, so that responsibilities can be attributed."

Asked if there is a timetable, President Christodoulides said that "announcements will be made soon".
