President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides expressed the hope that Turkey will respond to the appointment of an envoy of the UN Secretary General, noting that our side is not afraid of the talks.

In his statements to reporters while arriving at the OEB offices for the Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Association of Land and Building Development Entrepreneurs, the President of the Republic said that "the Foreign Minister has been in Israel since last night, precisely in the context of the consultations that are being held in particular by Israel for the implementation of the proposal of the Republic of Cyprus supported by the European Union and international organizations. I would like to recall that we have also discussed this issue with the UN Secretary General and we are in contact with the UN agencies involved in the humanitarian aid mission in Gaza in order to discuss the details. There will be trips to the region in the near future, the President of the European Commission is going to Egypt and Jordan, and we are working towards the implementation of the Republic of Cyprus' proposal."

Asked how Israel views the Republic of Cyprus' proposal, President Christodoulides said that "the results are positive, Israel sees the need for this humanitarian aid mission to exist."

There are some issues that Israel raises, and the Republic of Cyprus can We are talking specifically about the arrival area, the reception, the distribution of the humanitarian aid inside Gaza, that's why I said that the UN is involved because it is UN agencies that will take care of the distribution of the humanitarian aid that will arrive in Gaza."

When asked, he said that "the Republic of Cyprus is the only one that submitted a specific plan, a 25-page document that touches on all aspects. A document that is in progress on the basis of the consultations that are taking place."

Asked if the Foreign Minister will meet with hostage families in Israel, the President said that it is not something he rules out although he does not know the Foreign Minister's schedule.

Asked about the meeting he had earlier today with a delegation of the Pancyprian Bar Association, the President of the Republic said that "a customary meeting with the new Council of the Pancyprian Bar Association was scheduled, but during which we also discussed issues related to how we can reach the common goal of swift, efficient and effective justice and the Government's decision to be implemented on the establishment of a single supervisory mechanism. An idea on which we are preparing a draft and will discuss with the Bar Association in particular on the bill, but also with the accountants. It is a decision of the Government that has already been taken and we will proceed."

Asked about the issue of the appointment of an envoy by the UN Secretary General, the President said that "the Turkish side has already rejected a personality, which we had accepted. We are awaiting the Secretary-General's recommendation which, as he has told us, will be in the next few days and we are ready to work with the personality appointed by the Secretary-General in order to create prospects for the resumption of talks.

We are not afraid of the talks, we know very well what we are seeking through the talks and I hope there will be a response from Turkey as well."
