[PIO] Statements by the new Citizens' Commissioner

The new Commissioner for Citizens, Panagiotis Palates, took office today: "I would like to thank the President of the Republic for the trust and the opportunity he gives me, through the Office of the Citizens' Commissioner, to implement first of all his pre-election commitments regarding participatory governance. It is our primary objective. A lot has already been done in terms of online two-way communication between the citizen and the executive. We estimate, always as far as possible, to immediately implement the first phase of the pre-election programme.

The second pillar with which we hope to deal is to work in a subsidiary way to the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the organizations that are active on a voluntary basis in our country, to strengthen their action at whatever level we are asked and, above all, our main pillar of action will be to intensify efforts in the framework and on the basis set by my predecessor Mr. Panagiotis Sentonas regarding citizenship and participatory democracy".
