The Minister of Transport, Works and Communications, Mr. Yannis Karousos and the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Mr. Vassilis Dimitriades, were informed today about new technologies in the field of port management during their visit to the Dubai Port Management Company, DP World.
In a statement to journalists on the sidelines of the President's visit to Dubai, Mr. Karousos said that "today I visited with Mr. Demetriades DP World which is the company that manages the Port of Limassol and the majority of ports in the world.
We met with the CEO of the company and we were shown the new technologies that have to do with the management of ports, especially containers, and they showed us technology that they intend to bring to Cyprus soon.
We also discussed several issues related to port management, as well as our future plans that we have in Cyprus. One of the new investments coming to Cyprus is the port of Vasilikos. We are preparing the bids now together with a consultant and a year from now we will be ready to launch the tender to attract an investor to build the new port in Vasilikos, which will be the industrial port of Cyprus.
The Port of Dubai is the 9th largest in the world, it employs 250 thousand workers and employees inside the port, it is an example to follow and we have a lot to learn from the management of Dubai ports in Cyprus.
We got ideas, we saw exactly how they work, we got input, we exchanged views and we invited the company and its CEO to attend the shipping conference that will be organised by the Ministry of Shipping. The invitation was accepted and we look forward to welcoming them and several others from the shipping industry for further information and exchange of views."
