In the presence of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms Marilena Evangelou and a representative of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, the handover ceremony of buses accessible to people with disabilities took place today.

In his brief greeting, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis said. What Marilena has said about synergies and the holistic approach to the implementation of social policy resonates with all of us. They describe noble objectives, actions on how we as a society can stand by each other, and that is a position of principle. It is an attitude of life that we as a Government have adopted and will continue to serve. It is a great pleasure for us to be able to assist the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, Deputy Minister Marilena Evangelou and her team in this noble action, in this effort to help our fellow human beings. We will continue to do so and provide all possible assistance.

But I also want to thank the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth for its contribution. I want to thank my Ministry team in the Department of Electromechanical Services for all the work they have done. I want you to know, Marilena, and I want the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth to know that we will always do what we can to help achieve these goals. Our fellow human beings, especially the most vulnerable, especially those with greater needs, must receive special care and attention from society, and that is what we aim to implement. Thank you for your presence.

I hope that organised groups of people with disabilities can now become independent from public passenger transport or from constantly needing the help of their own people to get around and that there is now a more independent and easier way of getting around."
