The Council of Ministers decided at its meeting today to increase the Ministry of Health's expenditure on the drugs available to the incarcerated, which are either not covered or not prescribed within the framework of the General Health Insurance Scheme.
As the Minister of Health, Dr. Poppy Kanari, said in a statement after the conclusion of the Council of Ministers, this decision will contribute to better serving our approximately 440 internally displaced persons with regard to the provision of medicines, which are prescribed by their own doctors.
Due to the ageing population of the incarcerated, she noted, the need for medicines, nutritional preparations and dietary supplements, which are outside the GHS, has multiplied and therefore, the decision was imperative.
Finally, Dr Kanari thanked the Cyprus Red Cross, which has been taking over the management of medicines for our internally displaced persons for years.
