Amending regulations, which provide for bans and warning labels also for heated smoking products with flavourings, were approved today by the Council of Ministers.
As the Minister of Health, Dr. Popi Kanari, said in a statement after the conclusion of the Council of Ministers, through the amending regulations, the national legislation is harmonized with the European directives.
In the legislation on tobacco control, which was adopted in 2017, as the Minister explained, these products were exempted. It was prohibited, she added, to place on the market conventional cigarettes and rolling tobacco which contained flavouring substances in their ingredients.
"The amending regulations prohibit the placing on the market, in addition to conventional cigarettes and rolling tobacco, of heated tobacco products containing flavouring substances in any of their ingredients," Dr Kanari noted.
The amendments, she added, also relate to product labelling, with the new regulations including verbal markings, warnings about the harmfulness of smoking and heated tobacco products.
Finally, he clarified that the amendment does not concern vaping products (vape) that have liquid inside, but only the categories relating to the heated tobacco product device in which cigarettes with flavourings are placed.
