The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, had a meeting with a delegation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Investment Fund TAQA at the Presidential Palace today.
In his statements to journalists at the Presidential Palace after the meeting, the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, Mr: "The presence of the head and members of the UAE Investment Fund, TAQA, in Cyprus and the meeting they had today with the President of the Republic follows the presence in Cyprus this summer of the UAE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for economic and trade issues.
The purpose of their presence here is to explore investment prospects in Cyprus, which the Government welcomes because it is these investments that the country needs in order to keep our economy on a growth path, a growth that is among the highest in the European Union (EU).
During today's meeting of the President of the Republic with the head and members of the Investment Fund, the interest of the UAE Fund to invest in the "Great Sea Interconnector" project and in a number of other investment projects in Cyprus was expressed.
To this end, it was agreed that the Investment Fund, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, will within one month examine a number and a list of projects from which the Investment Fund can choose to invest in Cyprus. Projects that are mature or close to being mature. It was a very constructive meeting."
Asked if there was an agreement on the Great Sea Interconnector project, Papadopoulos said: "There is interest, whatever else follows will be announced."
Asked if any initial recommendations were made by the Government to the Investment Fund in relation to projects for which investments could be made, the Director of the President's Press Office said: "We are in contact, there is a list of projects on the part of the Government that are mature or close to being mature that we will recommend, and depending on the prospects and interests of the Investment Fund and the capabilities of the Investment Fund, they will be jointly considered."
Asked to say what these projects relate to, Papadopoulos said they "relate to infrastructure and development projects in Cyprus in general."
