[PIO] Statements by Minister of Health Michael Damianos after the meeting of the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Christodoulides with the

Issues of concern to the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations were the focus of a meeting between the President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides and the leadership of the organisation, in the presence of the Minister of Health Mr. Michael Damianoux.

In his statements after the meeting, the Minister of Health Mr. Michael Damianos said that the meeting discussed, among others, the issue of financial support for the relatives of subsidized patients and the Bills on the Patient Advocate, University Clinics, Rehabilitation Centers and Ambulances.

Regarding the issue of financial support for the relatives of subsidized patients, Mr. Minister noted that it is being processed by the Government and estimated that within the coming weeks there will be announcements.

Regarding the Bills, Damianos noted that the aim is to submit them to the Parliament as soon as possible.

Asked about the status of the Bill on the Patient Advocate, he said that it is being finalized, expressing confidence that it will be submitted to Parliament within the next few months.

Regarding the management of the issue of waiting lists, he said that the OAI has already proceeded with the adoption of specific measures aimed at reducing them. He expressed the view that the measures taken by OAI would bear fruit within a reasonable period of time, but noted that the level of their effectiveness would have to be examined along the way.

Asked whether he considered the demands of the OASC to be fair, he noted that the Government shared most of the positions of the OASC and was proceeding to resolve the issues raised by the organisation.
