The Council of Ministers today, 29 May 2024, approved the proposals of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance for the launch of the following Plans as part of the government's policy to support mountain areas, pensioners and workers:

(a) "Low-Income Pensioners' Holiday Subsidy Scheme at Hotels in Mountain Resorts and Tilliria Tower" during the period from 4/6/2024 to 29/7/2024 and from 3/9/2024 to 28/10/2024, under which full subsidies will be provided for full board accommodation for low-income pensioners for holidays at resorts in mountain resorts and Tilliria Tower.

(b) "Employee Leave Grant Scheme" during the period from 14/7/2024 to 27/9/2024, under which accommodation with full board will be fully subsidised for employees who are entitled to holiday pay from the Central Leave Fund for holidays in mountain resorts and the Tilliria Tower.

It is expected that through the implementation of the Schemes more than 10,000 workers and pensioners, amounting to approximately 3,800 and 6,300 citizens respectively, will benefit.

The Low Pensioners' Holiday Grant Scheme will operate for the period from 4/6/2024 to 29/7/2024 and from 3/9/2024 to 28/10/2024 or until the relevant budget is exhausted and will cover a 4-day stay (3 nights) with full board from Friday to Monday and from Tuesday to Friday.

Beneficiaries of the Scheme, who are included in the following categories, must necessarily be permanent residents of the island.500 for singles, and [*]pensioners with an annual income of up to €20,000 for families, as well as their dependants, as defined in the Low Income Pensioners' Assistance Scheme.

6,266 persons will be eligible to participate in the Scheme, while the expenditure for the implementation of the Scheme will amount to nine hundred and fifty thousand euros (€950,000).

The Employee Leave Grant Scheme will operate for the period from 14/7/2024 to 27/9/2024 and will cover a 6-day stay (5 nights) with full board from Sunday to Friday.

The Employee Leave Grant Scheme will operate for the period from 14/7/2024 to 27/9/2024 and will cover a 6-day stay (5 nights) with full board from Sunday to Friday. Beneficiaries of the Scheme are employees who are entitled to holiday pay from the Central Leave Fund for the year 2023 and who did not participate in the Scheme themselves or their spouses in 2023.

More than 3,800 persons will be eligible to participate in the Scheme, with a budget of nine hundred thousand euros (€900,000) available.

The objectives of the two Plans are, on the one hand, to provide quality services to low pensioners and workers, as well as to support our country's mountain resorts, which, through their operation, provide a significant number of jobs in areas outside urban centres, enhance Cyprus' tourism product during the winter months, thus helping to extend the tourist season, and, through their operation, support to a significant extent the communities in which they operate.

As regards the application procedures, the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance will inform beneficiaries directly, as soon as the procedures regarding the implementation of the schemes are finalised.
