"From today's discussion in the Parliamentary Health Committee it appeared that everyone agrees that the Law must be implemented", noted Health Minister Dr.Poppy Kanari, referring to the upcoming transfer of the authority to approve the sending of patients abroad from the Ministry of Health to the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO).

The Minister of Health was speaking at the end of the extraordinary session of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives, whose members asked to be informed by the Ministry of Health about the process of transferring this competence from the Ministry of Health to the OAS.

Dr Kanari explained that under the legislation the transfer of the competence is nothing more than compliance with the legislation that Parliament passed.

"The President of the Republic has announced the assumption by the OAI of the responsibility of referring the patients of beneficiaries of the GHS abroad," the competent Minister stressed, adding that the Ministry of Health will provide all possible assistance to the OAI for the successful and rapid transfer of the management of the patient referral plan abroad, both in terms of expertise, personnel and support for the software system.
