I informed the Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutional Affairs and the Commissioner for Administration about the activities of the Independent Social Support Agency (ISSA), of which we are very proud.
The Agency, which this year we have evolved [AND] updated to meet the needs of today's times, with a focus on assistance to orphans, children of single parents and large families, is an asset. This year, due to increased donations, paid into the state special fund and strictly controlled by the Central Bank, the Auditor General - who is the treasurer - and of course the Auditor General, between 800 and 1,000 children can be helped. This is great and extremely necessary. And I will continue to work hard, with transparency and accountability, to get more grants and give even more scholarships, relaxing, year after year, the criteria, to get to all the middle-class families who need us.
In a time of austerity, under-generation, and multiple challenges, as the wife of the President, it is my duty as the wife of the President of the Republic to be actively supportive of young people and families. I hope that the House will see the great work and stand in support because less sponsorship and discouragement of sponsors means less scholarships to children, especially those who do not have adequate financial support from home. We are investing in our children's education. We are leveraging social corporate responsibility. I am confident that we all share the same goal and will not hurt the institution. We will not hurt our children.
Thank you very much.
