Workers' safety and health is a government priority


In the context of the implementation of the agreement between the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and the social partners for the gradual institutionalization of mandatory pre-training on safety and health issues in the construction industry, the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr. Yannis Panagiotou visited today a construction site in Nicosia, where training on safety and health of workers in the construction sector for the acquisition of a "Safe Pass".

The Minister, after being informed about the programme and talking to the trainees, stated the following: "The safety and health of workers is non-negotiable and is a priority for the Christodoulides Government. The implementation of the agreement on the gradual institutionalization of mandatory pre-training on safety and health issues in the construction industry is an important step in this direction and the government's planning to support the implementation of the agreement provides the opportunity for quality training to thousands of workers so that they can return to their families healthy, safe and fit."

The Director of the Labour Inspection Department, Mr. Aristos Economides, stressed the Ministry's goal of "Zero Work".

The aim of the Agreement is to provide quality training to a total of 15,000 workers over the next 30 months. The "Safe Pass" card will be valid for five (5) years and, thereafter, retraining will be required for renewal. The six-hour training programs are funded by the Human Resources Development Authority.
