Satisfaction for the inclusion of almost all the recommendations proposed by the Republic of Cyprus in the new EU Action Plan for the management of migratory flows in the Eastern Mediterranean, expressed in a statement from Luxembourg today Interior Minister Mr. In the margins of his participation in the Council of Interior Ministers, Mr Ioannou welcomed the completion and adoption of the Action Plan for the management of migratory flows in the Eastern Mediterranean.

On the sidelines of his participation in the Council of Interior Ministers, Mr Ioannou welcomed the completion and adoption of the Action Plan for the management of migratory flows in the Eastern Mediterranean. As he pointed out, the Action Plan is "an outcome of our own actions, both of the present Christodoulides and Anastasiades administrations".

The Cypriot Interior Minister thanked the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr Margaritis Schinas, and the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ms Ylva Johansson, for the tremendous efforts they have made in recent times to complete the Action Plan. "We are pleased because the Action Plan includes almost all the actions that we proposed last May, both during my trip to Brussels and in a presentation to the Heads of Diplomatic Missions of all EU Member States", said the Minister of Interior.

Mr. Ioannou also expressed the conviction that "the practical implementation of the Action Plan will make the management of migration flows more effective. Already some provisions are being implemented informally and in combination with our own actions, we are getting tangible results. At the moment, arrivals of irregular migrants from the occupied territories have been reduced by more than 50% and from Africa by 76%."

"We hope that with the practical implementation of the remaining measures we will have even better results, if nothing changes in the external environment," the Interior Minister said.
