The Minister of Interior Mr. Constantine Ioannou made the following statement today. The decision was taken in the light of developments in the Middle East region.
It was also decided to immediately revoke the subsidiary protection status or reject applications from persons who have demonstrably travelled back to areas of Syria in the last 12 months through occupied territories. Such persons will cease to have access to any rights under the temporary protection status and steps will be taken to repatriate them, either through voluntary return or mandatory expulsion, when and if this becomes possible.
The situation is being continuously assessed and decisions will be taken on the basis of planning, depending on developments. The situation is under control and our actions are aimed at addressing potential risks."
