In the aftermath of this horrible war against Ukraine and some of the things that have been said about children in our schools, I want to mention the following. Caution and caution are needed. The school in Cyprus teaches peace. Children - all children - learn the values of freedom and justice and with them the respect of others, of all peoples, but also the value of peace.
Our school principals and teachers know how to handle these issues with understanding and discretion, and it is unthinkable that the intensity of this terrible war should be transferred into the school. We need caution and, above all, respect for the national origin or other relationship and sensitivity of all.
We must certainly respect the intensity and emotional charge of children who have a relationship with Ukraine, after all, they are living the attitude of solidarity of the Cypriot people towards their country. At the same time, under no circumstances should children of Russian origin or with a close connection to Russia be victimized.
Children and school are by definition outside any war.
Relevant instructions are also given by the Ministry's addresses to the schools.
