The Cooperative Societies Service, the competent authority, among others, for Social Enterprises, announces the opening of the acceptance of applications for registration of enterprises, which meet the requirements of the Law, in the Social Enterprises Registry.
Social Enterprises are a new institution in Cyprus and are governed by the Social Enterprises Law and Regulations. Two types of Social Enterprises (SEs) are provided for:
(a) the general purpose CC, which has as its main operating purpose the social mission through the promotion of social, cultural and/or environmental activities in the interest of society, and
(b) the integration CC, which has as its main operational purpose the social mission through the employment of a minimum of ten percent (10%) as a workforce of persons with disabilities and a minimum of thirty percent (30%) as a workforce of persons belonging to vulnerable groups (Annex to the Law).
Information and application forms are posted on the website of the Agency.
It should also be noted that the Co-operative Societies Agency and other government agencies are promoting incentives to support businesses that register on the Social Enterprise Register.
