For the Environment Commissioner's Office, today's press conference has a dual role. On the one hand, it is to inform interested businesses about the start of the training workshops to promote their registration in the State Register of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and on the other hand it is an opportunity to inform the general public about the issue of social responsibility of businesses and citizens.

Today, in addition to their business activities, businesses are also called upon to act as responsible social citizens. That is, in addition to their profitability and compliance with applicable legislation, they need to integrate in their management, philosophy and business strategy the basic principles of social responsibility - in their corporate governance, socially, economically and environmentally and for the benefit of their staff, customers and partners - with respect for people, business ethics and the environment. Nowadays, the concept incorporates the terms sustainability and responsible business and is associated with all efforts to create conditions conducive to sustainable, environmentally friendly development in the medium and long term. And when we talk about sustainable development, we are referring to development that does not deplete natural resources.

Essential to achieving sustainable development is the implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering issues such as poverty, gender equality, health, education, good governance, migration, climate change and environmental protection, which in themselves provide an important roadmap for every action and manifestation of CSR.

Within this broader view of CSR, issues are promoted along three axes. a) Environment - to address the climate crisis, promoting social and environmental responsibility in the supply chain, environmental issues such as protecting biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, rational waste management, fossil fuel decarbonisation, resource efficiency and energy efficiency. a) Environment - to address the climate crisis, promoting social and environmental responsibility in the supply chain, environmental issues such as protecting biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, rational waste management, fossil fuel decarbonisation, resource efficiency and energy efficiency. b) Environment - to address the climate crisis, promoting social and environmental responsibility in the supply chain, environmental issues such as protecting biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, rational waste management, fossil fuel decarbonisation, resource efficiency and energy efficiency. (b) Society - human rights, labour rights, training, gender equality, employee welfare and occupational safety and health, consumer interests including privacy, community participation and development (inclusive and non-discriminatory). c) Corporate governance - code of conduct, anti-corruption and application of good governance principles as a tool to support a company's long-term strategy to include the above factors in decision making and impact management of its activities.

CSR in this modern form can be a platform for social dialogue investing in credibility and trust, acting as a mechanism for building respect among stakeholders Responsibility for the environment and the implementation of better working practices in return to local communities and citizens require collective action. It is also necessary to develop new skills, perceptions and knowledge. For the Office of the Environment Commissioner, in line with the Governance Programme of President Nicos Christodoulides, the development of green skills and sustainable development principles is an important priority. This, moreover, is also required by the objectives of the European Green Deal.

For these reasons, we are pleased to put under the auspices of the Office of the Environment Commissioner the series of training workshops on CSR and the promotion of the registration of companies in the State Register of CSR.
