Every time we visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to inaugurate or announce its reinforcement with new equipment and machinery, our joy is special.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) annually treats hundreds of newborns, who receive the best possible care during the first days of their lives.

The doctors, nurses and generally the entire staff of the Limassol General Hospital's NICU, together with the newborns and their parents, give daily a difficult struggle with the sole aim of winning the battle for life.

Today we are gathered here to receive valuable and necessary equipment that will enhance the work performed daily in the Unit. The Department is receiving 14 covers, especially for incubators that positively affect their neurodevelopmental development.

The money for the donation came from the "Madame Figaro" award, Woman of the Year 2022, in the category of social contribution, received by the President of the Association, Elena Megalemou Triantafyllidi, whom we would like to thank on a personal level.

These covers are an important part of the individualized neurodevelopmental care that premature newborns receive at the Department. They are made to create an environment reminiscent of the mother's womb, reducing stress and protecting the delicate eyes of premature newborns from bright light. At the same time, these covers enhance the development of their biological clock and the establishment of normal sleep patterns with the day-night cycle pattern.

All of this would not have been possible without the crucial contribution of the Baby Miracles Association. The Association has supported the neonatal units over the years with donations of equipment and sponsorships. Since its foundation in 2015, it has offered an embrace full of love for premature newborns and their parents.

A volunteer organization that is always at our side, whenever we need them. All volunteers give without pay, not because the offer is not worth it, but because it is invaluable.

Dear Mrs. Megalemou and members of the Association, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Friends,

On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I would like to congratulate the doctors, nurses and other staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital of OKYPY and the administration, for the daily battle they fight, saving lives.

Finally, we express our special thanks to the Association "Babies of Miracles" that once again listened to the needs that arose and rushed to cover them with a lot of love.
