The Health Insurance Organisation, in the context of the upgrades of the IT System for more efficient information of the beneficiaries of the GHS, informs the public that as of 26 April 2024, the service of sending a text message (SMS) to the beneficiary's mobile phone, for health care services received from Specialists, has been implemented.

More specifically, beneficiaries can now be informed by SMS text message on their mobile phone about the health care services they have received during a visit to a Specialist Doctor. SMS messages will only be sent to beneficiaries who have an active GIS Beneficiary Portal access account and have linked their beneficiary record.

In case beneficiaries did not have their beneficiary record linked by 26 April 2024, in order to receive SMS messages, they will need to take one of the following two actions:

1. Create an account to access the Beneficiary Portal

Create an account to access the Beneficiary Portal, following the login procedure as described on the GIS website, here. Alternatively or additionally, they can watch the relevant video.

Once connected, the beneficiary will need to activate SMS receipt by going to the 'Communication Preferences' section under Demographics, as shown in the image below:

Note that if a beneficiary, who has connected their account, has minor children then they will automatically gain access to each child's beneficiary record and can also activate SMS receipt for their children.

2. Contact their Personal Physician to activate the feature

They should contact their Personal Physician, asking him/her to confirm the mobile phone number registered in their beneficiary record and subsequently activate the SMS reception on their behalf.

For further information or support in relation to the above, you can contact the GHS Service Centre at 17000, via a toll-free telephone call.
