At a special ceremony held today at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus and the Church of Cyprus, the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, the Church of Greece, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Jewish Museum of Greece for the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust and the fight against anti-Semitism.
The Memorandum provides for the implementation of actions aimed at preserving the memory of the Holocaust and combating all contemporary forms of anti-Semitism, racism and intolerance. These actions concern the holding of seminars, the creation of a common digital cooperation platform for teachers in Cyprus and Greece and the undertaking of educational initiatives such as the holding of an annual student competition on the Holocaust, the organisation of visits by school units and the implementation of relevant activities by students. It also provides for the establishment of a joint working committee in which the six parties involved will be represented and which will identify and further specify the areas of cooperation between them.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, the Memorandum was signed by Minister Mrs. Athena Michaelidou, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, His Beatitude Archbishop George, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, the Secretary General of Religious Affairs Mr. Georgios Kalantzis, on behalf of the General Secretary of Education of the Hellenic Republic, His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia and Komotini, on behalf of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, the General Secretary of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, Mr.
