The President of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Mr. Thanos Papaioannou signed today in Nicosia a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Public Service Commission and the Supreme Council of Personnel, recognizing the common objective of these two independent institutions to safeguard the principles of meritocracy, good administration and the right to work in the public sector in conditions of legality, impartiality and transparency.

During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding, the two Presidents stressed the need to adopt and implement modern and innovative practices in recruitment procedures that will further promote meritocracy by improving the quality and productivity of human resources in the public sector.

Taking into account the above, with this Memorandum of Understanding, the two Parties, inter alia, agreed to encourage the establishment and development of cooperation on issues of common interest.

The Chairman of the Public Service Commission Mr. Papageorgiou stated: "It is with great pleasure that we are here today for the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Supreme Personnel Selection Board of the Hellenic Republic and the Public Service Commission of the Republic of Cyprus. I should note that, for several years now, we have developed informal but close cooperation with the SSC in matters of our competence. With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding that we are about to sign, this cooperation is taking on an institutional form. Recognising our common objective of safeguarding the principles of meritocracy, good administration and the right to work in the public sector, in conditions of legality, equality, fairness and transparency, we look forward, with the signing of this Memorandum, to consolidating the development of our cooperation on issues of common interest, to establishing an inter-institutional dialogue between the two institutions, to co-organising or jointly participating in training and other activities that support the mission of the A.S.S.E.P. and E.D.Y."

The President of the ASEP Mr. Papaioannou stated: "I am particularly pleased to expand our cooperation with the Public Service Commission of the Republic of Cyprus. We face common challenges and therefore we have to look for common solutions. I am confident that the cooperation between the officials of the two authorities will be fruitful and bring tangible results as each side has much to gain from the experiences and good practices of the other side".

Finally, the two Parties agreed to jointly seek information, knowledge, experience and best practices at international and European level from respective institutions.
