[PIO] Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Office of the Environment Commissioner and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative

On Monday 19 February 2024, a four-year Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Office of the Environment Commissioner and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI). The objective of the MoU is to promote and undertake actions in the framework of a common commitment to tackle climate change, to preserve and protect the environment, to use natural resources wisely, to achieve sustainability in all sectors, including tourism.

The MoU was signed by Environment Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou and Mr. Philippos Droussiotis, President of CSTI, both expressing their common will for new partnerships and initiatives for the development of sustainability and tourism, in order to protect the environment and promote culture.

The two parties agreed to expand the cooperation between them and, among other things, discussed the following. [*]Development of a strategy for sustainable walking routes. [*]Development of a platform for ambassadors and ambassadors of environmental issues. [*]Beachfluencer initiative to create a network of beach volunteers. [*]Citizen awareness campaigns, organisation of festivals, events, thematic workshops, etc. on sustainable development. [*]Cooperation with international organisations such as IUCN, UNWTO, UNEP etc. in shows to strengthen environmental management in Cyprus.
