A Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology was signed today, 20 October 2023. The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Petros Xenophontos and the CEO of the Centre Mr. Diophantos Hadjimitsis.
The purpose of the Memorandum is the cooperation between the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Centre of Excellence and the definition of the possibilities for the development of basic and applied research on the facilitation of innovation in the fields of remote sensing and space-based environmental monitoring in the field of agriculture and livestock in Cyprus.
This MoU recognises the benefits to be derived from the partnership, cooperation and mutual contribution to the effort to further promote and understand the quality of Space, Earth Observation and Geoinformatics services.
Specifically, the cooperation will cover the following topics:
- Cooperation in fundamental, academic research on Cyprus' agricultural livestock.
- The provision of mutual access to facilities and data for the purposes of fundamental, academic research.
- Encouraging partnership and cooperation in projects involving the staff of the CGIAR and the Centre of Excellence.
- To support the transfer of expertise and training of staff in related subjects.
- The joint organisation of conferences, seminars and lectures on related subjects.
- Exploiting joint participation in research projects on related topics.
- Facilitating the exchange of scientific information and data.
The Memorandum will be in force for a period of five years.
