The Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 23:04 local time an earthquake of magnitude M=5 was recorded by the seismological network of the Department.1 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake had its epicentre in the maritime area of Cyprus, 53 kilometres northwest of Polis Chrysochous and a focal depth of 24 kilometres. The earthquake was felt in the Paphos province, slightly felt in the Limassol and Nicosia provinces and felt in eastern Cyprus and the southern coast of Turkey. It is assessed as an aftershock of the strong earthquake of seismic magnitude Mw=6.5 of 11 January 2022.
