The "Cyprus Road Safety Programme" Conference is taking place today in Cyprus, as part of the initiatives of the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works on road safety issues. The opening of the Conference was welcomed by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mr. The Seminar is co-organised by the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (CTC), the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation "KOIOS" of the University of Cyprus and the Department of Public Works.
The Cyprus Road Safety Programme is part of the joint effort of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank to support the Member States of the European Union through the Safer Transport Platform Programme.
During the conference, the results of the Cyprus Road Safety Programme were presented, and wider road safety issues in the European Union and Cyprus, including the Safe System strategy, were discussed.
In this context, the results of the road infrastructure safety assessment of Cyprus and proposals for techno-economically viable remedial measures for the benefit of road safety were also presented.
At the Conference, funding opportunities from the European Investment Bank, as well as promoted actions of the Department of Public Works and the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation "COIOS" of the University of Cyprus for the digital transformation of the transport sector were also discussed. The "Cyprus Road Safety Programme" concerns the preparation for the implementation of the European Road Infrastructure Safety Management Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/1936).
