The UN Security Council, chaired by the Permanent Representative of France, Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière, held closed consultations yesterday morning on the International Organization's Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
During the consultations, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP, Mr. Colin Stewart, briefed the members of the Security Council on the situation and recent developments in Cyprus in view of the adoption of the resolution on the renewal of the Force's mandate. UNFICYP's mandate expires on 31 January 2024 and the Security Council is expected to renew its mandate until 31 January 2025, at an open meeting on 30 January 2024.
